program description:

In addition to providing health insurance for our participants, we want to ensure that we are promoting the message that health insurance is necessary for all. Every year, Shooting Touch mobilizes over 230 Community Health Workers to visit house to house, teaching and encouraging people within our Districts to register for Mutuelle De Sante (the country’s national health insurance).

program goals:

  1. Increase community awareness on the benefits of having health insurance.

  2. Increase enrollment for Mutuelle De Sante Healthcare coverage within the sectors in which we operate.

  3. Maintain a “Top 5 District Ranking” for total health care coverage within Kayonza District

Program Outcomes:

Since 2017, ST has educated over 45,000 people on the benefits of obtaining health insurance as well as how to easily obtain the insurance via mobile device. According to recent surveying, 100% of the people visited during the 2019 campaign learned new information regarding Mutuelle De Sante.

In our most recent mobilization campaign, we saw a significant increase of people insured in the sectors where campaigns were held. Currently, our four ST sectors in the Kayonza District are in the top six of the District, where, in the 2016, some ST sectors were as low as last place out of twelve.

There are some people in the lower levels of the community who don’t know why health insurance — Mutuelle — is important. The campaign can help change mindsets so people understand why an entire family should be covered to receive drugs, treatment and more. Some people say, ‘I haven’t purchased Mutuelle because I’m living in poverty.’ Maybe they have house troubles or other financial issues, but we can teach them that even if they have problems, Mutuelle should be a priority. They can pay in installments slowly by slowly and will then be able to achieve a healthy life.
